I purchased my Dolphin Diagnostic four years ago at our local Leslie's. I had a Kreepy Krauly which worked fairly well but, since my pool has only one skimmer inlet, the surface wouldn't get adequately skimmed when the KK was being used (even with the KK skimmer plate which allowed for some skimming while vacuuming). While we don't have many trees in West Texas, any that are shed seem to end up in my pool ;-)
I have been completely satisfied with the Dolphin. In the four years I have owned it I have needed only two repairs -- the first about 2 years ago was done under warranty and required sending the Dolphin to a repair station. This winter my Dolphin stopped moving and I tracked (pun intended) the problem to a worn drive track. I was able to fix this myself after ordering the correct parts.
While not having many trees, West Texas does have a lot of dust and wind. Prior to the Dolphin it was a battle to keep the pool clean but now it remains sparkling. I don't know why the previous two reviewers have had such problems, but mine covers the entire pool without difficulty. You do need to pay attention to the flow in the pool since that can affect the Dolphin's cleaning pattern. I tend to run it at least every other day throughout the year since we don't close our pool for the winter.
I've noticed two fringe benefits to the Dolphin. First, the agitation from the upward stream from the pump (especially when it is at the top of its climb of a wall) helps move surface debris and the skimmer is more effective. Second, since the collection bag microfilters the water, I only have to backwash my filter about one tenth as often as previously. This saves time, work, water, and chemicals.
Four years ago I paid about $850 for the Dolphin. This is my 5th season of use. Amortized at less than $200 per year this has been a great investment for me. My only regret is not having spent the extra money for the model with remote control. Sometimes there is an area - usually at the shallow end - that I want to clean first.
O.K., you do have to clean the bag but that is not much of a chore. I just dump the debris in the trash and then spray the bag with a hose to remove the dirt. Actually, there are disposable bags available and I did purchase some to use in the winter but they are rather expensive so I prefer the bag cleaning route.
I have recommended the Dolphin to friends and I would buy another.

Very Impressed on How Well The Dolphin Diagnostic Works

I recently purchased a refurbished Dolphin Diagnostic pool cleaner. I was a little more than concerned after reading some of the negative reviews. However, I am completely satisfied.
The Dolphin cleans my 18x36 pool in only a few hours. I haven't had to let it run the full cycle yet. What is more impressive is how much junk it takes out of the pool. The other day I was teaching my wife how to set it up and run it. The pool was clean with the exception of a few leaves in one end. We let it run until it picked up the leaves. Maybe an hour and a half at most. I was shocked when I pulled out the bag. It was filthy!
I think cleaning the bag is a bit of a pain. It is messy for sure. I found a website that sells 5 disposable filter bags for about $20. They say you can use them for 2-3 cleanings. Might be worth a try.
Time will tell how reliable the Dolphin is. But so far, I am very satisfied. |
I like it

| I have had the Dolphin for 4 pool seasons after an Aquabot that came with my house stopped working the same season I moved in. The Dolphin is built and works better than the Aquabot. I have an irregular shaped pool. The Dolphin has some preference for the deeper end, but it does cover the entire pool area in one cycle. I have a lot of trees and vegetation around my pool, and this thing does a great job at keeping the pool clean. Has no problem going up the walls. Has had no problem picking up leaves, small twigs, seedling, etc. Even cleans the stairs without getting stuck due to the clever floats on the grab bar. I use it about 2-3x a week. Have not had any problems with it. |
It makes my life a lot easier!

I absolutely love my Dolphin! I have it about 4 years now and only needed 1 repair because someone stepped on the plastic part that connects the power cable to the power supply. I live in Mass so we use it for only 4 months a year. I have many trees that overlook the pool so we constantly have pine needles and leaves in the pool. The Dolphin does a great job cleaning the pool. I run twice before emptying the filter bag. Cleaning the bag is a pain, but a lot less of a pain than hauling out the manual pool vacuum.
I highly recommend this product. |

| It's expensive. Which means it either works like a charm or it goes back to the store. I just ran it through its first cycle and it was phenomenal. I have a dirty pool and I needed help. It has a 3 hour timer and that is plenty for it to get most of the pool. It strains to get up all the way to the water line but makes it. I am running it on a second cycle just because there was soo much junk in the filter bag when I cleaned it after the first. I recommend it if you are tired of battling buildup and can't devote time daily to the pool. It's worth more than a pool man. |
